Are Search Engines the Only Way To
Promote Your Website
?

By Robin Roberts

Many make the mistake of counting solely on search engine ranking to promote their Website. If your market is primarily national or international, a good ranking is important.  But moving your site up through the rankings can take time, depending on the popularity of your search terms.  While working on that, there are other methods of promotion that are equally important and highly effective.

A Website should be promoted on the local level as well is within the search engines.  There are two good reasons for this. First, promoting your site locally will boost your site traffic, and increased site traffic contributes to a better ranking within the search engines. Second, if your customers are local, promoting your site within your region using the ideas discussed below can have a noticeable impact on both your site traffic and the consequent results.

In a nutshell, promote your site locally by prominently displaying your site address everywhere your business name appears. Here is small sampling of possible formats for promoting your Website address:

Local or statewide online Directory
Business Cards
Letterhead
Flyers and Brochures
Business Signs and Banners
All Advertising – Print or Electronic
Promotional items - pens, calendars, t-shirts, magnets, etc
Press Releases
Public Service Announcements
Invoices
Return Address Labels
Email Letterhead
Thank You for Your Business Cards
Email Newsletters

In other words, the goal is to make your Website address as well known as your business name. You can do this by making it your habit to never advertise one without the other.
